Direction two: poor sleep works against the medication

Here is the less-advertised half of the street. GLP-1 drugs work largely by amplifying satiety signaling — and sleep deprivation pushes hard in the opposite direction. In controlled laboratory studies reviewed by the NIH, restricting sleep to 4–5 hours raised ghrelin (the hunger hormone) and lowered leptin (the satiety hormone), with participants in multiple studies consuming roughly 250–400 extra calories the following day, mostly from snacks and refined carbohydrates.

In return, the medication works best in people who sleep enough for their appetite hormones to cooperate.
